Sprained my ankle and foot 4 days ago. Went to ER and had Xray. Nothing broken just a sprain. Been on crutches all 4 days and today I tried to start walking on it. I get sharp pain and it tingles and numb across the top of my foot. And at that point I couldn t walk anymore. What should i do?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think that most probably you has a ligament injury. Some time there can be cartilage injury also. Both of these are as painful as bony injury and can be missed. So I would recommend you to apply splinting, Hot water fomentation and Volini ointment.
You need to avoid standing for long time on affected side and also keep your foot elevated over pillow. Compression bandage or splint will help in preventing swelling.
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. This pain might stay for say three weeks to four weeks . Tablet Brufen can be taken if pain is very bad. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
