Hello I'm 28 year old male. I have been having back pain in my lumbar spine for about 3 years. It is 24-7 on going mri shows annual tears at l3-l4 and l4-l5 also. i just had a discogram and it did recreate my pain at these levels. I have completed 2 rounds of PT and done 3 injections prior to getting my discogram done. Following my discogram I recived Pulse Radio Frequency on the levels creating pain. I know theres not a lot of research on Pulse Radio Frequency. I am unclear if its supposed to work right away or if it takes time. I know that it may not work at all but am hope full. Right know I would do anything to get this ride of this back pain. I think my next opion is surgery. I've been off work for a month and was hopeing this will help so i can go back. If not Im going to switch my antidepressant to cymbalta and maybe see about getting some kind of pain med for brake through pain so i can go to work and keep my insurance long enuff to help pay for the suregery.
Sorry for my post being so long. Its been a long road.
Thanks for any help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Back pain and sciatica associated with disc herniation can last for 1 month to 6 months. With muscle relaxants like cyclobenzaprine and pain medications like tramadol i usually use in my patients to control the symptoms. Physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercises will speed up your recovery. So you can wait for a 6 months duration before considering surgery if there is no serious neurological deficits. Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries.
