Suggest Treatment For Bile Leakage After A Tumor Removal Surgery
Hi, my father recently had a Whipple procedure to remove a tumor from the head of the pancreas. After the surgery he developed complications which included a bile leak from the liver and bile duct/intestine connection. It has been over 6 weeks since his surgery now and he is still draining bile Around 500 - 550 mls every 24 hrs. Doctors sent him home from hospital saying the leak will stop, but it just increased a bit after coming home. My question is, will this leak ever stop? What can we do to help it decrease and stop altogether? He is very weak and can t eat as much either due to the surgery. But we are very concerned about the bile leak.
There are various reasons for bile leakage after Whipple procedure, commonest one is anastomosis leak. This leak usually dries up with a varying period of time but takes weeks to months sometimes. Have to keep patience and be in regular follow up with your gastro surgeon.
