Suggest Treatment For Bloating And Swelling In The Stomach, Intermittent Diarrhea And Constipation Apart From Tenderness At The Navel

I have been suffering with bloating/swelling in the stomach. I have suffered constipation and diarrhoea. The area from my ribs to the line of my belly button feels tender. I struggle eating or having an appetite. It’s hurting during sex. I’ve visited my GP and had blood tests and handed a stool sample in and all has come back normal. But I don’t feel normal or comfortable.

Hello,

1) Symptom of bloating indirectly suggests indigestion (for specific food).

2) Sometimes when inner layer of large intestine get inflamed (swollen) it produces symptom of alternate constipation and diarrhea. Therefore, this might require further assessment by Internal medicine specialist. The few common reasons for alternate diarrhea and constipation is inflammatory bowel disease, aggressive laxative treatment for constipation, indigestion, mass lesion in intestine.

3) Decreased appetite, feeling of tenderness over upper abdomen are symptoms related to indigestion because of reducing peristaltic movement of intestine and producing more intestinal gas during process of digestion.

4) Generally blood reports are normal in indigestion. And apart from diet modification, no any specific treatment is required except intestinal enzyme supplement.

5) In diet modification, generally high fat containing food, fried food, bakery food should be avoided and taking small quantity meals in multiple sessions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Happykumar Kagathara, Gastrointestinal Surgeon
