Suggest Treatment For Bloody Diarrhea And Lower Back Pain

My name is Catherine Miller I m 67yr. Have high bp and printzmental angina also IBS and spherocytosis. Two years ago I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and I ve had two spells of bloody diarrhea and was given antibiotics last year. In the past 4days I ve been bleeding with low back pain and pain on my left side. Can I just limit my diet and wait it out or should I see a Dr?I really don t want to be on antibiotics for 3weeks again.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. It will be wise to see a Gastroenterologist first, since you have diverticulitis/ IBS [may have developed into Chron's disease or Ulcerative colitis], in past and both these conditions can lead to heavy blood loss and lower back pain and who might ask for investigation(s) like: colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or a virtual colonoscopy [CT colonography]

2. Although spherocytosis doesn't cause bloody diarrhea [as far as i know] even then consult a Hematologist regarding the same]

3. initially see a Doctor and later on implement the diet and life style management which he/she has to offer.
