Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis In An Elderly Person

I am 70 years old and was prescribed ciprofloxacine for bronchitis. However, my condition has greatly improved but I now have a swelling above my right wrist on the thumb side. It is painful when I move my hand up and down or when I grip anything. Is this due to this drug?

Hi,

I am sorry for the problems you are facing. I am happy that ciprofloxacine has helped with chronic bronchitis.

The swelling above your right wrist on the thumb side could be due to:
- possible trauma you might have faced (unless you do not remember it)
- arthritis that can possibly be precipitated from ciprofloxacin use if started after you started to take it

I advise to apply ice pack locally and use oral anti-inflammatory meds. If no improvement, report this as side effect of cipro, to change therapy.

All the best.
