Approximately three weeks ago, I was walking in a campsite in the dark returning to my tent. I tripped over a very large rock that included a very direct blow to my shin. I initially thought it was a bone contusion, but I am concerned that I may have chipped one or more areas of my shin as: i) there is superficial numbness, but any pressure / pressing causes moderate to significant pain, there remains a very broad area that is swollen and raised along my the anterior ridge of my shin; and iii) three weeks out, I still have discoloration in my ankle and foot from the blood/swelling that accumulates during the day when I'm on my feet.
If it is a bruise, it just needs time to heal. If it is a chip, what would be the alternative treatment? I ask, because I know the likely response is to get an XRay. However, even if it is a chip, I assume it is still protect it, and wait for it to heal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
