Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation And Back Pain
I have been having trouble with constipation for several months now. A hyda scan indicated my gall bladder was not functioning properly so I had it removed last October 3 months ago. The surgeon told me my GB was in very bad shape and if I had not come in voluntarily when I did he would have met me in the ED, once it was removed he said it would take a few weeks to get my bowels back to normal. I never resumed normal function and even now will go several days without a bm. I was taking laxatives but now I have moved on to drinking prune juice (8-10oz) almost every day. If I don't drink the prune juice I will not have a bm and have gone 4-5 days with out a bm. I also have an achy feeling under my right rib as well as some upper back pain. If I haven't had a bm for a few days I also have acid reflux which I have had for several years but now only seems noticeable when I'm "bound up" I have an appointment with my GI doc but couldn't get in to see him for over a week. Wondering if you have any advice in the meantime Thanks Yvette
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of gall bladder removal 3 months ago due to HIDA scan showing not properly functioning of gall bladder. But since then there is constipation which can be relieved by laxatives initially and now taking prune juice. There is also acid reflux and achy feeling under the right rib. Since the constipation is there which needs assistance, you have to continue taking prune juice. The better idea is to use the different laxatives from time to time so that you do not get addicted to a particular one and also have comfortable life. In addition you have to make changes in the diet and make a list of the foods and beverages that suit you the most and continue and make another list of those that do not suit and strictly stop such things. Control of stress and anxiety are a part of the treatment in many a patients.
