Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation And Pain Under The Rib Cage
Hello. I am a healthy, non-smoking, not drinking 49 yr old woman. I have had pain intermitent under my rib cage and chronic constipation most of my life. Recently I have changed my diet to a very low carb, high protien and fat diet. I feel overall more healthy and SO much more energetic. Although, I have developed a pain between my ribs, just under my sternum. Could this be chronic pancreatitis?
First of all, you need not worry as you have mentioned you are not a drinker or a smoker, you are more energetic and healthy, so relax as this could not be chronic pancreatitis.
Constipation is common in people who do not have adequate diet rich in fibre and the pain in your ribs can be due to the pressure on your abdomen during defecation.
Having food rich in fibers, like green leafy vegetables, which will reduce constipation and ease in passing stools; it will reduce the pain in the ribs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Md Aamir Sohail, General Surgeon
