Suggest Treatment For Chronic Dandruff Problem

My 78 year old mother is complaining of dandruff on the scalp and is now developing in her eyebrows. Is using Head & Shoulders for scalp. Saw GP for regular check up and he suggested alternation Head & Shoulders with Celcin (Spelling?) another OTC dandruff product. She has not seen much improvement. she is most concerned about the eye brows. Suggestions? We are not sure if she should see derm or continue OTC therapy? Thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Seborrheic Dermatitis commonly known as Dandruff and it can progress from scalp to the eyebrows and parts of face..
Common causes for it can be fungal infection, genes, change in weather, poor hygiene conditions, poor immunity etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Trichologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and microscopic examination of the flakes can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
You can be advised to apply shampoo containing Ketoconazole, coal tar, salicylic acid, zinc, selenium, sulfides etc..
She can also be advised Keratolytic lotion like Salicylic acid containing lotion..
You can also be advised to massage the scalp with steroid lotion..
You should also keep the scalp clean and avoid moisture accumulation to prevent infection..For eyebrows she can be advised ketoconazole containing ointments and along with a low potency steroid ointment along with ointments containing Pimecrolimus can help..
Wash your face with a moisturizer based soap..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
