Suggest Treatment For Cold And Sore Throat While On Amoxicillin
My daughter, aged 20, was prescribed an antibiotic for cold symptoms. She took them for about 5 days and it appeared she was improving, but now, she is sick again; sore throat, headache, sore body. She was tested for strep but it was negative, although that was the first day she had symptoms. She has had her tonsils removed. She is taking amoxicillin (sp?). Could she have developed an immunity to this antibiotic drug? She seems to get colds and the flu easily although she is otherwise healthy.
Hi, I can understand your concern. Your daughter seems to have seasonal infections. She improved with the regular course of medicines, so there is no resistance to the drug. These are seasonal viral infections, and I get these patients in my clinic regularly.
Please ensure she takes plenty of oral fluids, even if she is not thirsty. You may take Paracetamol 650 mg whenever she has feverishness and body pain. Try to remain indoor as much as possible. The viral infection will take 4-5 days to recede.
Please monitor her fever, and consult your local physician if it is high grade or does not recede after 3-4 days.
Best wishes for good health.
