Cough and cold are common in children of this age and are cause due to certain viruses. Generally these are not a cause of concern as these are self containing conditions and resolve in 5-7 days without any treatment of the cause. Antibiotics are ineffective in a viral infection. At times, in case of a severe reaction, secondary bacterial infection may be present and only then antibiotics are indicated. Generally the viral infections have an allergic component and some anti-allergic may help. The medicines being given are proper and you may continue giving them without worrying. Additionally, giving steam inhalation will help in diluting the cough and give the child relief.
