Hi, I had gotten a cold sore a few days ago and it hasn t started getting better but to add on to that pain my gums feel swollen and are very tender, I have body aches, and also my tongue kinda has a sore on it. Should I see a doctor or wait for it to go away?

Hi,

You should see a doctor as your history is suggestive of gingivitis along with constitutional symptoms. This means you need proper clinical examination, tests of blood, swab from oral cavity, and may need oral antibiotic, metronidazole.

Till then have oral rinses with liquid povidone iodine. Frequent sips of water orally to have proper hydration and cleansing of oral cavity. Antifungal if oral thrush is seen or suspected. Rule out diabetes immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
