Suggest Treatment For Cold Sweats While On Advil In An Elderly Person
my 65 yr old male friend called me telling me he woke up around 3am with pain in his side that lasted quite a while, advil would not help, no comfortable position. Then broke out in cold sweats, but his temp went down to around 94.4. Finally around 8am, the pain subsided and he was able to get back in bed and get warm. Pain is gone now, temp is back to normal, but feels a bit out of sorts which not getting enough sleep can cause. He is retired and is on meds for a-fib, and on oxygen for emphazema. Other than that, Health is pretty good. Thoughts?
It is a common complain of patients on Advil to have cold sweats. Advil cause dilation of the blood vessels causing loss of heat from the skin & hence sweating.
However, since your friend was having pain on his sides, he is suggested to get a clinical examination done at ER. Sometimes, pain can be due to some heart or lung issues.
He needs a follow up examination & blood with Imaging tests done to detect any developing pathology. If diabetic, he should maintain his blood glucose levels at all cost. He needs to have a regular blood pressure check up done.
Help him stay well nourished & hydrated. He should stay away from any stress, anxiety or addictions if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
