Suggest Treatment For Colitis In An Elderly Person

My mother n law is 98 yrs old and having problems in her stomach area. It has been diagnosed as either colitis or diverticulitis. Is there anything that can be done for her? She has pain especially when touched in that area. Her motions are not daily as previously. Her stomach is quite extended. She is not interested in eating any longer. She also has age induced diabetes which is under control by insulin injections.

Hello and thank you for your question. Diverticulitis is usually treated with antibiotics. Treatment for colitis depends upon the cause so her gastroenterologist would need to determine the cause and the appropriate treatment for that. Sometimes people with either of these conditions can develop complications like abscess so if she is getting worse please get her to see her doctor again soon.
