Suggest Treatment For Colon Damage Due To A Bladder Sling
I had a bladder sling in 2011. Have had pain for over a year. Through a doctor s exam and tests, I found out that the mesh has eroded into my vagina. I will have a c.t. scan on the 12th of this month to see if it has done any damage to colon. My question is: If I do have further damage, should I go to same doctor who performed the surgery in the first place, or seek help in a more specialized hospital?
Hi. Thanks for your query, albeit very specific. Noted the history of bladder sling in 2011, have had pain over a year, the mesh has eroded into vagina, wants to know whether this can damage colon and whether to go to the same Surgeon who performed or to go to the more specialized center. I would advise you in such a situation the following: You should first of all see the Surgeon who performed the surgery as he knows the exacts steps and placement of the mesh. Go to the higher and specialized center only if he suggests so. He may be competent enough to remove the mesh, the causative factor for vaginal erosion. If you do not have any bowel related symptoms, it probably has not done any harm to colon as the mesh is small.
