Hello, My husband is 69 and has suffered two falls within a 6 week period, first falling off a boat ladder on to the hard pavement landing on his right temporal lobe, then three days ago tripped on a deck step and landed on the same side. The first fall we rushed him to the emergency room where they said he sustained a concussion. Since his fall three days ago, he has maintained a steady headache, as well as a off and on nosebleed, more on than off. Is this common or does this require a ER visit? Thank you kindly
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Well the symptoms experienced by patient after second incidence indicates head injury. Regarding headache,it may be due to either skull bone fracture or underlying haematoma(EDH,SDH or contusion). Well nasal bleeding may simply be bleed or CSF (brain fluid) due to skull base fracture. You should visit ER and undergo fresh CT scan for correct diagnosis. Further treatment, whether conservative or operative depends on CT scan findings.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
