Suggest Treatment For Cough In Kid

my 4 year old daughter has recently started these coughing and gagging spells at night in her sleep and she chokes to the point that she stops breathing. she doesn't wake up and it scare me to death - we have to really talk loud to her to wake her up and she is fine. What could this be? she does it 2-3 times a night.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. I just read through your question. The symptoms you describe may be consistent with "Obstructive Sleep Apnea". This is usually related to enlarged tonsils or adenoids. It causes snoring, sometimes cough, and typically results in apneic episodes (not breathing), for a minimum of 20 seconds. This can be taken care of by a good ENT. I recommend consulting with your doctor who should be able to refer you to an ENT.
