Suggest Treatment For Cut In Mouth Of A Child Due To An Injury

My 1 1/2 year old son was playing and had a wand in his mouth and fell on it. He started screaming and blood started coming out of his nose and mouth. It was bleeding heavy for about 10 min and has slowed down to a stop. I looked in his mouth and saw a small cut (1/4 inch) on the roof of his mouth, left side. I didn t see anything else because he wouldn t open it any more. Should I take him to the ER or to be seen, or not? Thanks

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain it seems that due to traumatic injury there has been breach in the mucosa of the roof of mouth leading to bleeding as well as there can be inflammation and pain..

As the cut is 1/4th inch, it is small and as the blood supply of the oral cavity is profuse the wound will heal quickly..

If the bleeding has subsided and there are no other symptoms you need not to worry..
You should however consult an Emergency room and get him evaluated so that they can advise you a numbing ointment like Lidocaine gel to be applied over the cut to relieve pain along with tylenol for pain relief..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
