Hi, I would like to ask about my mother. she is sugar patient and also taking blood pressure medicine. Her kidneys are little bit affected due to sugar. Recently she has started using insulin, in morning 20 units (30/70) and in the evening 12 units. In the morning, she is feeling confused after the breakfast. Kindly suggest what to do?
With the help of a blood glucose monitoring device used at home, check her fasting blood sugar and blood sugar value after breakfast to ensure if she is not getting hypoglycemia or low blood sugar that is less than 70 mg/dl. If she is, then consult her treating diabetologist who may ask you to lower her morning insulin dose.
OR
If she is hypoglycemic, increase the food intake especially carbohydrates in breakfast to match the insulin dose.
Hope this answers your query. You can ask me for any further clarifications.
