Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Breathing When Diagnosed With Kidney Stone

I have a right kidney stone which was partially lasered 4 weeks ago. I had a one night stay for that surgery and discharged with a plan to perform further surgery in 4 weeks time. Unfortunately I was readmitted 2 days post surgery due to difficulty breathing and it turned out my kidney was perforated during the surgery I had and also the stent was blocked. I was in hospital for 10 days to manage this. I was discharged on strong pain meds targin 10/5 BD (8am and 8 pm) and endone PRN for breakthrough pain. In the last 3 days I ve noticed the pain is not responsive to these meds as before I m needing to take targin more frequent than BD like every 4-5hrs and endone more frequent and this only achieves taking a slight edge off the pain for about 2 hrs before the pain starts building up again. What should I do? I m at risk of overdosing by just trying to get rid of this pain

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about complications post surgery of right kidney stone, perforation, blocked stent, admission for 10 days, yet need to increase the dose of painkillers like Targin 10/5 and so on.
The need to increase the dose of Targin indicates that there is still a complications.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult your Doctor or the Specialist.
Insist for CT scan of the abdomen to know exact complication that is giving you pain which can be in the form of an infection, hematoma formation and impacted stone.
Once the diagnosis has been done, the treatment can be specific as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
