Suggest Treatment For Difficulty In Breathing

My fourteen year old son has a chest cold but no fluid in his lungs according to his pediatrician and he claimed gasping for air and not being able to breathe which is the worst at night. Last night he woke out of a sound sleep gasping for air and not getting any. he was able to start breathing slowly in a minute but I have never seen all air cut off from a chest cold. What are my options? Is there an inhaler I can buy until I can get him to an ENT DR. which is 2 weeks away? Thanks.

Hello, thank you for posting at Health Care Magic. From your post, I surmise that your son has a wheeze which will make breathing at night or early morning harder, and possibly a nose block due to drying up of secretions in his nose overnight.
My suggestion would be:
1. Put saline nose drops to clear the secretions and do steam inhalation (works beautifully to relieve stuffy nose)
2. Get him an inhaler like Salbutamol or Levosalbutamol if he is having excess cough or fast breathing/difficulty breathing. He should get relief from that. Learn how to use it and give 6 puffs(with a minute between puffs) three times with a 20 minute interval between each set of 6 puffs in case of difficulty breathing.
6puffs--(20 mins)--6puffs---(20 mins)-----6 puffs
Hope he gets better soon. Take care
