I have had what I think is a bout of diverticulitis over the last few days. But I worry that it may be a symptom of something worse. The symptoms are better today and I am able to eat somewhat normally. I had a colonoscopy in 2012 and I didn t have any polyps. I have been under more stress than normal lately and not eating like I should. I am a 56 yr old female. I am about 30 lbs over weight. I also have fibroid tumors but have an ultrasound annually for those. I have been in menopause for about 4 years. Is there anything over the counter I can take to relieve symptoms once they start? It comes on so suddenly that by the time I realize it, it s full on. Normally I am very regular and have a bm several times each day. I have an appointment with my gynecologist next week for a check up. But meanwhile I worry about it. Also, my 81 year old Dad is a colon cancer survivor since 2006. He however suffered chronic constipation all his life and never had a colonoscopy until the cancer was discovered. Thanks for any help you can provide.
