Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had been taking Asacol for an IBD flare and not reacting well to it so I was recently started taking prednisone. I keep dry heaving and my uvula seems to be drooping and touching my tongue and it keeps making me gags and irritate my throat. Could this be allergic reaction to the prednisone?
Hello.... Corticosteroids(e.g. Predinisolone) can cause many side effects on long duration of intake. One of the side effects is dryness of mouth. In your case, steroid causes dryness of mouth than can led to throat irritation. This is not called allergic reaction but sie effect of steroids. In this case, as you gradually tapper down your steroid dose according to response in IBD or kindly take some Gel form syrup to keep your throat wet like Mucaine Gel syrup or Syrup Aciloc-S.
Thank You
