Suggest Treatment For Dull Pain In Lower Back Due To Slip- Disc

Hi, I suffer from a slip-disc problem, and have had this issue for the past 8 years... I have been suffering from a dull pain in my lower back, the same place the pain usually occurs for about a week now. Usually I just take it easy or pop a painkiller and the pain and problem go away in a day or so... but this time nothing has worked, and the pain still persists... I am 25 years old, weigh about 70 kgs, and am 5 11 tall

Hello,

You have slip disc issue since 8 years, presently you are experiencing dull pain in the lower back. You are suggested to maintain better posture while sitting, standing or sleeping. Herniated disk, or arthritis in the lower back can also cause aching pains. Get clinically assessed by an orthopedic doctor to detect the degree of slip disc, herniation or any other developing pathology. You may be asked to get few blood tests and investigations or repeat imaging tests to detect RA, OA, etc.

In the meantime, to relieve pain you can take NSAIDS, naproxen, one SOS when required. Physical therapy and epidural steroid injections effectively reduce discomfort. Applying a heating pad or ice pack to the affected area eases discomfort. Stay at rest and do not over strain. Avoid movements like frequent climbing of stairs, jogging, running, hard walking, etc., as they may trigger pain and make it worse.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
