My wife (age 75) began showing early signs of dementia a few months ago, during a time of stress. Primarily, the signs were repetitive questions and comments within short periods of time, regardless of answers or responses from myself and our adult children and their spouses. More recently, visits to an eye doctor (annual checkup) and then, an ear doctor (for ringing in the ear) a few weeks later, resulted in discussions with those doctors who both brought up the question whether or not she had experienced shingles. She has, on two occasions over the past few years. The ear doctor prescribed daily doses of Acyclovir along with the herb ginger root. Something seems to be helping with the mild dementia, for which we're very grateful. Since the connection between shingles and dementia seems to be a recent discovery, my question for you is... are there any other recognized, successful methods of treatment we should be looking into?
