Suggest Treatment For Elbow Fracture

My husband broke his ulna and radius bones near the elbow. Surgery was done to repair the ulna. He is in a full arm brace/cast. He was told to keep it raised above his heart. He keeps it raised up but feels like it is swollen. What else can he do? Or what sows above the heart look like?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
If surgery was done for fracture radius and ulna it has to be protected in brace or splint for one month depending of stability of fixation. If both radius and ulna was fixed using rigid fixation immediate range of movement can be started and no brace is required. If only ulna is fixed as in your case it has to be protected for one month. Limb has to be kept elevated above heart to reduce swelling for one initial week. Nothing else needs to be done as fracture will take time for union and you are getting proper treatment. Take high protein and calcium diet to support union.
