Suggest Treatment For Epilepsy

I m an epileptic (petite mal) taking keppra (500mg) 2X3 = 3,000 mg. per day. What s the dosage I should take of Clonazapam (1 mg) after being cut off Capermazapine due to side affects; skin rashes. Right now I m taking 5 mg. a day; 2 during day and 3 at bedtime to control seizures. I haven t been able to see my dr. due to sum. holdidays. So I took 2 mg extra, and it sure seems to help. I very thankful. So, I took 7mg. Will it be okay? for that s a anti confulsion pill. I will see my Dr. Muelenberg tomorrow. Thank you. Eugene P. Atleo

You should know that in forums such as this where physicians are standing by to answer clinical questions....it is not possible nor even in patients' best interest to give specific information on dosing drugs that could conflict with a primary doctor's instructions or wishes. Your best course of action is to always ALWAYS follow your doctor's recommendations until you can either see THEM or talk to THEM on the telephone. Never solicit or even take advice from online docs or others who would claim to know what "you need" since they for sure don't....make sense? Your medication and its dosage is specific to you and therefore, any changes to that regimen should come from the person who ordered it.....I can say this, however, and not interrupt anything that Dr. Muelenberg would be trying to do for you.....As an epileptic make very sure you do the following things:

1. MOST IMPORTANTLY....take every dose of your medications for your epilepsy EVERY day at the EXACT times prescribed by your doctor. Miss one dose and you could have a breakthrough or worse yet...a FLURRY of breakthroughs that could land you in a hospital.

2. DRINK WATER...not caffeinated beverage, DEFINITELY NOT ALCOHOL of any type no matter how small the amount.....the medication's effects could be negated or the depressant effects could be ENHANCED by alcohol to significant levels.

3. Do not stay in environments that are excessively heated for very long periods of time...even if hydrating (i.e. no hot yoga, saunas, etc.)

4. Eat your meals ON TIME....don't skip...In other words, don't let yourself become Hypoglycemic...this can trip seizures off.

Follow these simple rules and live an even MORE optimal and seizure FREE life! Cheers.
