Hello,

Lung diseases (COPD) & plural effusion may take long to get cured completely. The pathology causing pleural effusion like (pneumonia, CCF, TB, cancer, cirrhosis, ascites, hypoalbuminemia, etc) needs to be diagnosed & treated. Malignancy may cause exudative pleural effusions.

Since you are diagnosed with TB you need to go for follow up treatments, get re-examined to see how your body is responding to the medicines you are taking. You will have to go through chest X-Rays, CT scans. Do continue to take the medicines you have been prescribed.

You need to get treated & take medicines for six to nine months to make sure all TB bacteria are killed.

Since TB drugs are very strong you need nutritious homemade food. Foods rich in protein, vitamins, calcium, iron & minerals can be taken. You can take multivitamin supplements. Keep yourself well hydrated. Take fruits & berries.

Avoid alcohol & tobacco, coffee, greasy oily food, trans fatty acids, refined products like sugar, white flour, etc. Stay away from any kind of addictions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
