Suggest Treatment For Fever And Worsening Rashes On Body

My 3 year old grandson has had a rash on his body for a week now. He has been in to see someone twice. They were thinking it was allergies however, he has been on Benedryl every night and claritin every morning and nothing is clearing it up. He was running a fever at times along with this rash. Highest reading was 101.8. They put him on 5ml of prednisolone for 3 days. He has taken two of those doses, tomorrow will be his third dose. His rash almost looks like it is getting worse today.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the extensive rashes not responding to antibiotic and high grade fever do indicate possible measles most likely. My guidelines at present:
- Allow plenty of liquids including oral rehydration salt
- Give antipyretic every 6 hourly
- Nutritious diet to combat immunity
- Supportive multi vitamins, minerals, zinc
- Hygienic care of rashes with local application of calamine lotion
- Discuss any dose regimen required for vaccination if any pending as per the age criteria

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
