Suggest Treatment For Fever Despite Taking Ibuprofen

Should we go to the urgent care now, or see his doctor in the morning?... 16 year old male, fever of 100 on Friday night, fever of 100.7 (managed to play a soccer game that morning in the rain), 101 Saturday night, 101 Sunday all day. I have given him ibuprofen around the clock, the fever is back before the next dose is due. Sunday morning started with a mild cough. Sunday mid morning pain in right chest only when he coughs. Cough is mild and not frequent. Should I wait to see his physician or go to urgent care?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Fever and cough can be due to viral infection, while it can also be due to bronchitis.

For now you can take cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan and along with it you can take a combination of Levocetrizine and Monteulokast.

Take Acetaminophen to reduce fever.

Also drink warm water and other warm fluids and chew a vitamin C pellet daily. If there is no improvement consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.
