Suggest Treatment For Finicky Behavior Of A Child Not Eating Healthy Food

My grandson is quite finicky. He isn t eating as nutritiously as I d like (I take care of him two days a week.) He only eats: ham, hot dogs, pizza, tater tots, mac and cheese, peas, applesauce. The parents don t want him to have baby food any longer but when he looks at new foods he pushes them away and won t open his mouth to eat. I don t know what else to give him. Oh...he loves bananas but he gets constipated so I do give him the baby prunes.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. You are an experienced person and you have experience in feeding your children. Your children too were doing the same thing and you did some tricks to make them eat nutritious food. Majority of times, those tricks don't work and you start punishment schedule. Here, in the case of your grandson, you should use the same tricks.

Children are always like that. They demand what they like. If you succumb to their demands, they insist again. I don't have explain the whole process. You have very good idea what to do. Use "reward or punishment" method judiciously.

Good luck. Take care.
