My wife, aged 38 years was tested for Thyroid and the test result, TSH was found high, at 40.29. She did not have any of the symptoms like weight gain or loss etc.,. We had one more test after ten days, this time the TSH was found to be almost half, at 22.87 level, while T3 (106) and T4 (7.10) was found normal. Now, i am confused, whether to go ahead with treatment or to go for one more test. Please advice.
Hello and thank you for asking! I can understand your concern. After starting treatment with levothyroxine it takes almost 6 weeks to correct the TSH level. In your case i would recommend to continue the treatment with the actual dose and to check the TSH after 4 weeks (a total 6 weeks of treatment). In general the treatment is longlife so she shouldn't stop it. Hope i was somewhat helpful. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
