Suggest Treatment For Frequent Cold And Asthma In A Child
Stewart Reese, aged 12, is an active boy who loves sports. He plays football in the fall, basketball in winter, and baseball in summer. His only health complaints are that he has frequent colds and that his asthma flares up sometimes, especially in the hot summer on family trips in the car. Stewart’s parents both smoke. The Reese family has three dogs and four cats. Rusty, their new Irish Setter puppy sleeps on Stewart’s bed. Stewart’s mother suspects that her son may actually have allergies. She reports that when he was a baby he was allergic to milk, but has apparently outgrown this allergy as he now drinks milk regularly. What tests could you run? What advice would you give Stewart and his mother?

Suggest Treatment For Frequent Cold And Asthma In A Child
Hi, What you say I feel that we need to consider the diagnosis of moderate persistent asthma here. Asthma is a clinical diagnosis and usually does not require any testing at all. The only test I would recommend to corroborate the evidence would be spirometry. I think he should be doing well with inhaled corticosteroids and oral Montelukast on a long term basis. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology
