Suggest Treatment For Headache And Dizziness After Head Injury

Hi my 8 year old daughter hit her head today on the wood floor and seemed fine for a few hours but starting about 2 1/2 hours ago she began to complain of headache and dizziness. She had almost nothing to drink today (and hot out), so I've been having her drink, she started to say she didn't feel so dizzy anymore, and ate dinner. But now she says her head feels wobbly when she lifts it and she has a headache on top of her head that feels like pressure, she says "like a hammer pushing down and squeezing my brain" . . . this has me worried. otherwise, no nausea, pupils are good . . .

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that your daughter is not having nausea, vomiting and she is conscious, oriented and pupils reactive. You have almost observed all signs of dangerous head injury. You can also look for few other signs to completely rule out dangerous head injury
: Persistent non relieving headache, not responding to painkillers
: Loss of consciousness for more than 5 min or decreasing consciousness
: fits
: onset of new focal deficit
If any of above signs, consult ER as soon as possible. The doctor might advise CT head after evaluation, to rule out fracture or bleed in brain. Further treatment will be decided after report.

If no above signs, then there is no need to worry. As her headache is also decreasing, it will disappear completely in few days. For relief, you can
: Apply icepacks at injury site
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: Give her painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription. For paediatric dose, consult paediatrician.
: For dizziness, give her Beta-histine after proper prescription.
: in case of vomiting, turn her head to side.

If still no relief, consult doctor. Hope it will help you.

Take care. Thanks.
