Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a hernia again.I have had a illiostomy &acolostomy done and then had them reversed within a 2 yr. span. Now I was told by my surgeon that seeing I have scaring tissue he might need to bring something down.I was wondering if he meant my intestines again,I know he said something about removing scar tissue as well.My question is how can he do all of this and how it is done,he also mentioned a mesh.I forgot to mention that it is in my incision where my surgery was done.
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted your history of ileostomy and colostomy meaning the ends of small and large intestines were bought out and then reversal done by doing anastomosis and replaced back into the abdomen. These surgeries result in some infection and a weak scar that gives incisional hernia. Your Surgeon is intending to remove the thin scar and pull some nearby muscles and its attachments called fascia and aponeuroses to have better covering of the mesh he must be thinking about. So do not worry, this is what he is going to do and is a normal practice in such surgical corrections. Go ahead and you will be fine.
