Pt is diabetes with blood sugars in the 300-500 range. Never been on insulin, cardiac surgeon says he does not want to put patient on insulin due to effects on smooth muscle tissue prior to open heart surgery. Is this a good treatment plan, or is it more important to get the blood sugars in better control?
Dear sir i can understand your concern. In my opinion sugar level 300-500 is not good. The latest research and guide lines are telling that diabetes control is very important before any surgery including open heart surgery. For a smooth and effective control of diabetes insulin is safest and best choice. people who are in good control prior to surgery, There out come will be good after surgery. I suggest you to take Opinion of Diabetologist/Endocrinologist for a better sugar control. Regards Dr vamsi Krishna Diabetologist Apollo Hospital
