Suggest Treatment For High Fever In A Child

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... good day. my 15 months old son has been having a high temperature for 2 days now and has refused to eat or even take any fluid other than water. although about 3weeks ago he had all his canine growing and was terribly ill. he also got treated for maleria since we live in a tropical region. last week, i noticed one of his premolar protruding. my question now is that is the fever as a result of teething or do you think he should be tested for maleria again

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Does he have any other associated symptoms like cough, vomiting or loose stools? Such high grade fever is not expected as a part of teething. If no other symptoms, this might be a viral fever. If he is playful when a-febrile, and taking breastfeeds, we need not worry now. Give paracetamol every 6 hour for 3 days. Try giving ORS or rice water instead of plain water.

If fever is not coming down after 48-72 hours, he is not at all feeding(including breast milk), or is lethargic even in between fevers, kindly take him to your pediatrician to rule out other causes, including malaria.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
