Suggest Treatment For Hoarseness Of Voice When Suffering From Hypothyroidism

Hi doctor, i have a thyroid compliant for 6Years. I have an hypothyroidism.. I have an non toxic multi nodular goitre. Both the left lobe and right lobe is enlarged and it is stretching and compressing my voice nerves.. My voice becomes hoarseness and it seems to be double voice. Recently i suggest a doctor. He told to take thyronorm tablets. If u take tablets, there is a chance of reducing the thyroid so that you can talk with good voice. A week back my T3 is 98, T4 is 7.70 and TSH is 7.12. My thyroid levels are somewhat normal. After taking tablets also my enlargement of left and right lobe thyroid is not decreased and the voice remains same. Really i feel bad on my voice and i have a little stammering problem also. So kindly suggest me a way to get back to good voice so that it is audible to everyone!!!

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your query, it seems that you have Hypothyroidism along with enlarged thyroid gland. Whenever thyroid gland enlarges it impinges on the structures underneath to that. Thyroid gland impinges on the trachea and vocal cords leads to hoarseness of voice.

I suggest you to go to a surgeon and get an ultrasound neck. We will find whether it is really a goiter or a hidden neoplasm causing impingement. If the gland is very large and compressing the posterior structures, better meet a surgeon and remove the thyroid gland.. and get the biopsy report also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
