Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism And Hair Fall

I am 37 years old woman with 2 children. I am suffering from severe allergic and hypothyroidism. I had a blood test about 2 months ago with the following results : T3 0.88ng/ml, T4 1.75 ug/dl and TSH >100 UIU/ML. I was prescribed MONTEK LC for the allergic and to start with Thyrox 100. Doctor told me to test my thyroid level after 2 months to adjust the dosage. Now the problem I am facing is :
a) Severe hair fall has started after commencement of Thyrox 100.
b) Severe body itching (any part of the body any time....). I cannot control myself and it requires heavy scratching for about half any hour. Skin turns into redness with thick rashes at the time of itching and then they disappear after sometime.
Please advice your opinion and guidance to overcome my problems. Thanks in advance.

Thyrox 100 from about 40 days
Montek (I took for about 1 month, now stopped)
Levocitrizine (occasionally to control continuous sneezing, running nose

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have allergy and hypothyroidism. Your hairfall is due to your hypothyroidism. You need to adjust the dosage of your thyrox. Go for T3, T4 and TSH level and increase the dosage of your thyrox accordingly. Your itching is due to your allergy. Antihistaminic drugs are useful.

In severe cases steroid can also be used. But it is a prescription based medicine so consult your doctor and take treatment accordingly. You should go for allergy test once. It will give you some idea regarding allergens. Then avoid exposure to those substances.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.

Regards,
Dr. Hardik Sanghvi
