Hi I just had a blood test 2 weeks ago and my doctor told me I'm hypo. I'm 30 yrs old female. I'm really upset. He told me he wants to do another test in 2 weeks time. Meanwhile I've been taking kelp supplements and trying to eat well. my thyroid level is 5.04 is this very bad? can this get better by eating well and exercising? the problem is I am already eating well and healthy and also working out almost everyday. I don't understand this hypothyroid thing! I'm also not overweight I'm actually slim but I do feel sleepy and tired most of the time. Can you pls give me some info?
Hi,Hypothyroidism, also called underactive thyroid , is a common disorder in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It can cause a number of symptoms, such as a feeling of tiredness, constipation, depression, weight gain , cold intolerance etc. Occasionally there may be swelling of the front part of the neck due to goiter. Too little iodine in the diet is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Another important cause of hypothyroidism is the autoimmune condition Hashimoto's thyroiditis.with some blood tests and a thyroid ultrasound your doctor will understand more the etiology of your hypothyroidism.Your Tsh=5.04 is little bit above the normal range(0.4-4 mU/l) ,so it is not very bad, dont worry.'Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
