Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 13 y.o. Abyssinian has just been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. In addition to the daily Cerenia and Mirtazapine PRN that she's been on for the past several wks, the vet wants her to begin B12 injections Q 3 wks, a probiotic, and prednisolone. This seems somewhat excessive to me, given that she's done well with the Cerenia and occasional Mirtazapine. It's very difficult administering meds to her, as she is able to detect it in her food. Can you comment?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per my surgical experience, any treatment guidelines are based on the symptomatic severity and over all patient evaluation considering the multiple factors underlying.
Here, there is no mentioning of any of the symptoms, so it is very difficult to comment further, but I can suggest that if the patient is doing very well with the current medications, there is no need to add additional molecules.
Thanks.
Regards.
