Suggest Treatment For Insomnia, Shortness Of Breath And Tiredness

I have been feeling tired for a long time and then a few months ago I got severe insomnia shortness of breath lightheadedness heart palpitations my blood pressure went up a little bit, among other things. About 5 years ago I developed what I think is eczema on my forearms. A few months ago my eyes got very dry and I must use eye drops every day to stop the dryness and itchiness. I finally went to the doctor few weeks ago and my eosinophil count was .6 my immature granulocytes ABS was .07 my eosinophils absolute was .06 my total protein was 8.3 my anion gap was 17 and my TSH was 5.93. these are all the slightly abnormal test results. I went back to the doctor for another blood test and check up still feeling exhausted all the time with severe insomnia back pain etc and received a full thyroid panel. I had to fight to get the TPO test done. Please keep in mind two of my sisters and my mother have Hashimoto s disease and my brother has regular hypothyroidism. I just got the results of my thyroid test panel back and my free t4 was 1 .1 my free t3 was 2.4 my TSH went down a little bit to 3.66 I did receive the 2 antibody test back with the only one I received back so far was the TPO test and my antibody level was 1047. I do not have insurance as of yet and have been going to a clinic where I pay out of pocket. I tried calling the doctor to get a little more information and to possibly start on medication now that I know I have Hashimoto s disease but I could not get ahold of the doctor so I am left at home wondering what I can do to feel better with no expert to talk to. I forgot to mention I have also have a weird feeling when i swallow like a slight swelling kind of like a thickness feeling.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the presence of thyroid peroxidase antibodies do indicate most likely reason of hypothyroidism with Hashimoto thyroiditis, an auto immune disorder of multiple variations.

* It is commonly associated with other auto immune disorders as pernicious anemia or others.

My guidance at present

- need prescription of thyroid supplements as Eltroxin or others as per the body weight criteria
- supplements of multi vitamins, iron, anti oxidants and minerals

- balanced nutritious diet
- avoidance of smoking, alcohol, any recreational drugs if consumed
- try to manage sound regular sleep of 7 hours in uninterupted manner, for which help with melatonin ( 3 mg ) serves best
- meditations and YOGA do help nice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
