Suggest Treatment For Itchy Bumps On The Mouth , Jaw And Neck

About 5 days ago very itchy bumps started appearing around my mouth, jaw line and neck. Now the jaw area on my left side is swollen, red, and hot. I assume this is some sort of allergy but have no idea what from. I ve never experienced these symptoms before. I m a 44yo male. We do a lot of hiking so maybe some sort of reaction to plant or insect. Benadryl seems to help the itch a bit but has no affect on the swelling. Rashy bumps seem to appear, heal, and reappear in a new spot, but only around my neck and jaw line. No problems are evident inside my mouth. Any ideas?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. You seem right in your assumption regarding your having an allergic reaction to an insect or plant.

Benadryl may not help to recover from severe allergic reaction. I would advise you to start antihistamine such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for about 5 days. If it would indeed be an allergic reaction, you will surely find relief with any of these medication.

If these reaction occurs frequently, it is necessary to find out the substance that you are allergic to as future allergic episodes might be severe than this. You can go for blood test for allergy to confirm what substance is acting as an allergen for you and you can avoid it in future.

However, if you do not find relief or experience increase in severity of the symptoms, you should visit a dentist or dermatologist for physical examination of the rashes.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
