Suggest Treatment For Klinefelter Syndrome

my son has klinefelter syndrome and my other son is married and he and his wife are expecting their first child. she is 7 weeks pregnant. their doctor suggested going for genetic testing because of the brother with klinefelter. since genetic testing is invasive...is this really necessary? i thought klinefelter was not inherited and it was just a genetic "fluke" at the time of conception. would there be another reason for the testing?

Hello. Welcome to HCM.

I am Dr Jigar. Let me help you out in this.

No genetic study is not required just for klinefelter syndrome.

Your concern is correct. This condition is not inherited. It results by chance during development of fetus and cells will contain an extra copy of X chromosome.

If the parents are not having any family history of genetic disorders then this invasive procedure should be avoided just because one child suffered klinefelter.

I hope this will help. Please give your valuable feedback.

Regards.
