Suggest Treatment For Low Appetite,heart Palpitations And Shortness Of Breath

Hello Doctor,I have been using orofer 100mg tablet for 21 days and I realised very uncomfortable situation where I had to face less appetite in food, palpitation, shortening of breath, gastrick, loose motion, joint pain and etc. Also I am a gastric patient so what I did was I stopped taking this tablet but I still do have few symtoms of those. So please do advise me to as what action should I take for this.Thank you.Yours faithfully,Manchester.

Hello

Thanks for writing to healthcaremagic. As I understand Orofer is a iron tablet, hence you must be suffering from iron defeciency anemia. Your symptoms of palpitation and shortness of breath seem to be related to anemia rather than due to iron tablet and will improve only with corrction of anemia. Other symptoms like abdominal discomfort and loose motions are likely due to iron suppliments. Usually these are mild and self limiting. You can try with small reduction in dose or frequency for some time and add a low dose PPI. If not at all able to tolerate oral iron then you may have to be given parenteral iron (through injections).
