My mom is 83 yrs old and has developed memory loss, mood changes that have been quite dramatic over the past few month.----could not remember to take her meds, wasn t bathing, losing her keys, wallet, etc----did not remember what was said at the beginning to the end of a conversation. If she is developing Alzheimers-----can she be tested for this? We now have her admitted to an assisted care facility, but she says she is ready to go home now---very frustrating and scary. Just want to know if I can have her tested to be sure.
Diagnosing Alzheimer, is mainly clinical diagnosis and in corroboration with MRI brain and if required PET scan. Also i advice to get few investigations (S. Vitamin 12, serum folic acid,Thyroid function tset, MRI Brian) with MR engine. few genetic tests are available, specially Early onset familial Alzheimer disease (eFAD)- mutation in the genes for presenilin 1, presenilin 2, or APP.
