Suggest Treatment For Nerve Pain From The Shoulder Till The Fingers After An Injury To The Ball And Socket Joint Of The Shoulder

I fell & fractured the ball of my shoulder 5 months ago for the second time in 5 years. I am still in pain & have a lot of nerve pain all the way to my fingers. My doctor only took xrays until after 5 months. Another doctor doing a nerve block in my neck finally ordered a MRI. The MRI showed a cyst on the ball of the shoulder. The doctor said the pain should get better. Don’t I need some other treatment? Thank you

Hello,

well, as per the history it looks like that there is not much freedom of movement at the shoulder joint post injury and due to the injury the muscles around the shoulder joint are getting spasmodic which in turn is leading pressure on the existing nerve passing by. First thing I would advice is to get the full ROM of the shoulder joint.

This can be achieved by ROM exercises and before the exercise using the hot water fermentation to sooth the muscles which will allow the movement of the joint much comfortable. It might take some time for the shoulder to come back to the near normal ROM (Range of motion). An effort will be required to get that, now the nerve pain which you are having it can be due to nerve compression in the spine as the muscles of the shoulder like the trapezius must have got shorten and it is totally a normal process of the body after injury.

A proper assessment and examination before the muscle relaxation and alignment of the spine is important. A good physiotherapist can help you regain a near normal pain free movements and much more. For more details I may have to study your MRI of the shoulder / spine.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
