Suggest Treatment For Osteoporosis

I take low dose statin and fish oil for cholesterol control. I have just started 1200 mgs of calcium +D3 twice a day. Will the calcium interfere with absorption of the statin? Also I took Actonel for 5 years as per Doctor s instruction. I was told I had osteopenia but not osteoporosis. A PA at my GP s practice just told me I have osteoporosis in my hip. I have requested another appt with my primary care physician to clear this confusion of diagnoses up. It is why I just started the calcium therapy. I am in excellent health for a 72 year old woman. Thank you

Hi,

First of all, calcium has nothing to do with absorption of statins. The second thing is an intake of calcium is not a treatment of osteoporosis.

For osteoporosis, there are different drugs and you need to have DEXA scan before that to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
