Suggest Treatment For Ovarian Cyst

I am 65 and have a 5.3 cyst on my right ovary, non cancerous. I ve never had children and past menopause . She wants to take out both ovaries as long as she s there . There are several concerns: not being able to produce hormones, what effect will that have? Is it in my best interest to remove both? more extensive recovery? Chronic bloating as a result? I m healthy, fit and have never had any surgery. No cancer history in our family.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Considering your age and the fact that you are postmenopausal, your doctor may have suggested removal of both the ovaries simultaneously. The size of the cyst warrants surgical removal whatever the pathology. Removal of ovaries does not cause any bloating nor does it influence the hormone status significantly because the hormone production from ovaries is negligible so many years after menopause. Please maintain your fitness and go ahead with the treatment. Take care.
